Oystercatcher View is a luxury designed shepherd hut accommodation with views of the Nochty River, and is set in the Cairngorms National Park on our Cattle, Sheep and Turkey Farm. Suitable for families or couples with king size bed and bunk beds for the children.
The shepherd huts and garden area is fenced off and secured with a gate to the car park area.

Oystercatcher View has an outdoor bath on decking and is surrounded by a privacy fence and has outside fairy lights. The decking leads to the entrance of the Shepherds hut via a sloped decking area. Also, outside is a picnic bench and fire pit with BBQ grill.

Inside the Shepherds Hut there are two fixed bunk beds (only suitable for children) and a fold down king size bed (for adults). When the king size bed is inside the wall, a table can be folded down to make the dining area. There is plenty of storage with two cupboards above the wall bed, storage under the benches, a drawer under the bunk beds and a wardrobe area for all your hanging items.

Opposite the bunk beds is a fully equipped kitchen with combi-microwave, 2-ringed hob, full size under counter fridge, toaster, kettle and all cooking utensils to make and serve some delicious meals. There is also a fire pit with BBQ grill outside for outdoor cooking. We supply one large bag of wood, kindling, firelighters, matches for a 2 night stay. More wood may be purchased on request.

There is an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin sink. The hut is very well insulated, so stays at an ambient temperature all day, for extra heat we have a towel radiator and plinth heater.

Please note the hut does not have a television. We do have unlimited WiFi to connect to your devices. Also, the hut has a games box, binoculars/bird book and a bluetooth Roberts radio.

Space to relax and explore the countryside and make memories with your family. Guests are welcome to explore around our farm with a complimentary farm tour. Come and see our cows, help care for our sheep during lambing time and learn all about how we rear our free range turkeys.

The Shepherds hut site has a secure car park next to the hut site. The local shop, play park and walk up to The Doune is only a 10 minute walk away.

Supervised visits to the farm only to see how our family farm is run, please arrange a suitable time with your host. Good times to visit, lambing time (April/May), turkeys (June to December), cattle inside (Winter to Spring).

Oystercatcher View is the first of two Shepherds huts that will be located on the site. The second hut being built off site next year and due for completion in summer 2023. A secure bike shed will be available for guests to store their bikes from May 2022.

Local Area

Strathdon is a small village in Aberdeenshire about 45 miles west of Aberdeen in the Cairngorm National Park, Highlands.  The village gets its name for its position on the River Don and is know for its deep roots and strong sense of community. The Strathdon area is a collection of scattered small communities including Bellabeg and Roughpark. This area of amazing scenery and wildlife is very propular with walkers and cyclists.

The Oystercatcher is a mile from the village, about 10 minutes walk where you will find the village shop. There are a number of fascinating craft businesses and extensive ruins of 16th centruy Glenbuchat Castle.

No public transport is available in the village and the nearest train station is Insch or Aberdeen (1 hour).  There are some bike hire places in Aboyne and Ballater.

Well worth a visit is the isolated Corgaff Castle originally a nobles residence that later became an army base for hunting down Jacobite sympathisers & later whisky smugglers.

Although Strathdon is usually very quiet it does come alive for the annual Lonach Gathering with its famout March of the Lonach Highlanders held on the fourth Saturday in August.  This traditional gathering with events such as tossing the caber, hammer etc., also hosts cometitions of Highland dancing which include Highland Fling, Sword Dance, Seann Truibhas and Reel of Tulloch.

The Oystercatcher View sleeps 2 adults and 2 children - the bunk beds are only suitable for children
